I'll start by saying I'm not really an eye shadow kind of girl. I'll wear it when I apply a full face of makeup, but I've always found it kind of awkward to apply. Should I use more than one color? What colors do I use where? It's easy for my to feel a little clownish. BUT! I'm happy to say I've found an eye shadow product that I actually love. It is so easy to apply, even for a shyaway like me, and the colors are subtle but gorgeous. Best of all, the formula is clean, so I can feel good about wearing it every day. Though I was skeptical at first, I'm now in love with ILIA's Liquid Powder Eye Tint! (Please don't discontinue it, ILIA!)

Why You Need a Clean Eye Shadow
You eye area is one of the most delicate and sensitive on your body, so you want to be choosy about what you put there - especially since the skin and surrounding mucous membranes can absorb much of what you apply. Many conventional eyeshadows are made with synthetic chemicals, dyes and preservatives, including chemicals like talc (the filler found to be a carcinogen)1, silicones (linked to hormone disruption, impaired fertility, and harm to the nervous and immune systems at high doses)2, PTFE (aka TEFLON - yes, that forever chemical on nonstick cookware that is a known carcinogen!)3, parabens (chemical preservatives linked to all kinds of harmful effects from endocrine disruption to cancer)4, and mineral oil (a petroleum-based oil that can clog pores and trap dirt and bacteria, causing breakouts). Yikes!
To avoid skin irritation and potential harm to your health, it's best to choose a more natural option free from these additives. Your skin and long term health will thank you! Luckily there are plenty of clean alternatives, including my new favorite: ILIA Liquid Powder Eye Tint.

ILIA Liquid Powder Eye Tint: My Honest Review
Ingredients: 9/10
ILIA formulates it's products without gluten, parabens, phthalates, petroleum, mineral oil, talc, BHA/BHT, propylene glycol, PEG, cyclomethicones, and chemical screens. They are also cruelty-free and certified by Leaping Bunny. Bonus points for including active skincare ingredients that actually improve skin! This eyeshadow has a score of 2 on EWG, which is pretty great.
Experience: 9/10
As someone who is often frustrated with eyeshadow, I LOVE using this one! All you have to do is swipe it on, give it a quick pat to blend, and you're done! The color and coverage are perfect with one swipe for me, but you can build and even layer colors for a more dramatic effect. The wand and tube are the perfect size, low mess, and don't require another brush!
Performance: 10/10
When ILIA says this eyeshadow doesn't budge, they mean it! It dries to a powder quickly and stays put all day long with ZERO smudging or creasing. It's amazing!
Value: 9/10
Considering most of the eye shadow I own has been used approximately once and then ignored, the value of this clean eyeshadow is great! One tube lasts a long time, and you don't have the risk of breakage wasting all of the product.

Overall Impressions
As someone who has always been indifferent toward eye shadow at best, I am shocked to find an eye shadow that I actually love. I never thought I'd actually look forward to wearing eye shadow, but leave it to ILIA to come up with a product that does it for me! I am excited to apply this liquid-to-powder shadow daily, whether it's a quick swipe of the Glaze shade (a gorgeous but subtle champagne pearl) for everyday, Cork (taupe brown) when I want a more matte look, or Aura (the most perfect soft pearl pink) when I want more color, I have loved every shade I've tried. It glides on easily with one swipe and stays liquid for just long enough to pat perfectly into place, then quickly dries to the perfect powder finish that is neither dry nor greasy. If you're not the most confident applying powder shadow, then this is definitely the product for you.
