I'll be the first to admit, something with 'algae' in the title wouldn't exactly be my first choice. The name doesn't exactly conjure up thoughts of light, fruity smells. But I do love a good body oil, so when I received a sample bottle of Osea's Undaria Algae Body Oil, I dove right in to see what it was all about. Not only was I pleasantly surprised, smell-wise, I was downright delighted with the whole product! Here's my full review of this seaweed-infused clean moisturizer.

Why You Need A Clean Body Oil
Despite always being told I shouldn't use oils on my oily skin, as I've grown a little older and wiser, I gravitate more toward oils over lotions for everything - from cleansing and moisturizing my face to body oils. They just seem to do their job better without leaving a greasy finish - and they are typically cleaner with fewer ingredients and fewer fillers.
Conventional body moisturizers can often be made ingredients that are questionable at best, and harmful at worst, including:
- Parabens - Commonly used in many personal care products and easily absorbed by the body, parabens are endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs)1 linked to breast cancer, thyroid problems, obesity, reproductive problems in both males and females2, and early onset of puberty in girls.3
- BHA - Chemical preservatives commonly used in cosmetics and food that have been associated with endocrine disruption, skin reactions, and could even be a carcinogen.4
- 'Fragrance' - The term fragrance on labels could be a mix of any chemicals that manufacturers are not required to disclose, and often are synthetic chemicals with harmful effects, including allergies, dermatitis, respiratory distress and potential effects on the reproductive system.5
- Phthalates - Phthalates are widely used in the cosmetics and personal care industry and have been linked to reproductive and endocrine disfunction, metabolic disfunction, cancer, and asthma.6
- Mineral oil - A petroleum-based oil that can clog pores and trap dirt and bacteria, causing breakouts. It can also be contaminated with PAHs - known carcinogens harmful to human health.7
Since many of these toxic ingredients are hard to avoid in conventional moisturizers, it's best to seek out a clean alternative for something you're going to apply all over your skin, especially if you use it every time you shower like I do!

Osea Undaria Algae Body Oil: My Honest Review
Ingredients: 10/10
One reason I love using oils is the shorter ingredients list that are generally pretty clean. This body oil contains only skin loving natural oils, including essential oils, and plant extracts for scent.
Experience: 10/10
By the name alone, I wasn't expecting to love the smell - 'algae' brings to mind seaweed washed up on the shores of the Texas coast. However, I'm happy to report that this body oil smells delightfully of citrus. Light grapefruit and lime notes that are easy breezy. It smooths on like a dream, absorbs quickly, and leaves zero sticky or greasy feeling on skin.
Performance: 10/10
Despite being lightweight, this oil moisturizes deeply. It makes my skin feel soft and nourished, instantly smoothing and hydrating my dry summer skin.
Value: 6/10
The only downside to this oil is the higher price point. It definitely has a luxury price tag. I also find that it takes a little more product than I'd expect to get full-body coverage.
Overall: 9/10

It is such a treat to smooth on post-shower with a light, citrusy scent and never-greasy feeling, leaving skin deeply moisturized and silky soft.
