The BEST Clean Cleansing Bar for Face and Body With Ayurvedic Ingredients

This body bar made with clean ingredients is not only affordable and easy to use, but it's also made with traditional Ayurvedic ingredients like neem and turmeric for effective but gentle skin cleansing. It's perfect for head-to-toe use in the shower for clear, bright skin!

When it comes to clean beauty, and often with cleansers, it seems there are two polar opposites available and not much in between - the fancy, high-ticket luxurious products, and the crunchy, bare-bones products from the health food store that leave you wanting more from the experience. But some products are starting to fill the gap with affordable clean products that are effective and also a pleasure to use. My new favorite bar soap is one of those products: Himalaya Botanique Neem & Turmeric Bar.

Why You Need a Clean Cleanser

If you're a human who takes bathes on a regular basis, you obviously need a good soap to wash off the grime of the day. The problem with many conventional soaps and cleansers sold at big box stores is that they are made with several toxic ingredients - including ethanolamines (MEA, DEA and TEA) which are foaming agents linked to hormone disruption1; triclosan, which is an antibacterial ingredient linked to hormone disruption and cancer2; and synthetic fragrance3, which could be a mix of any chemicals that manufacturers are not required to disclose. Many of these ingredients are already banned in the EU, but regulation of personal care products is very loosely regulated in the US.

Since you (presumably) use body wash or soap every day and all over your body, it's a good idea to use one that is free from potentially harmful ingredients. While bar soap tends to be easier to find made with clean ingredients, sometimes it can be hit or miss on quality and effectiveness. But THIS one is amazing - and affordable!

    What is Neem?

Neem oil is an oil that comes from the seed of a neem tree (also called Indian lilac). It is high in many phytochemicals and other compounds that make it ideal for healthy skin. Neem has been used for centuries as an Ayurvedic remedy for many skin conditions, such as wound healing, fungal and bacterial infection, psoriasis, acne, and eczema; as well as for other uses and conditions.4 Though neem oil is potent, it also has a strong, pungent odor that turns most people off of it (including myself!).

Himalaya Botanique Neem & Turmeric Body Bar: My Honest Review

    Ingredients: 10/10

This bar soap contains only a few all natural ingredients, including coconut, olive and castor oils, cocoa butter, neem and turmeric extracts.

    Experience: 10/10

The soap lathers up beautifully and smells great - similar to warm fall spices like clove and thyme. I was surprised by the pleasant smell, because if you've ever smelled neem oil, it's pretty pungent!

    Performance: 10/10

After using this bar in the shower, my skin felt clean and moisturized. After using the whole bar, I can say for sure that the clogged pores and breakouts on my back all but disappeared! I was shocked by how well it worked, all without stripping my skin.

    Value: 9/10

At the time of this writing, the neem & turmeric version of this bar is only $3.50 a bar - a great value! While it does seem to go fast, most bar soaps do, and at such a great price, I will definitely be stocking up.

    Overall: 9.75/10

    Overall Impressions

I was SHOCKED to love this soap as much as I do! I was skeptical after trying other bar soaps that either barely lathered or dried my skin out. But I was pleasantly surprised by just how effective and gentle this soap is, and I'm so impressed by how clean and clear it left my skin. While I haven't yet used it on my face, I plan to buy more and see what happens when I use it as a facial cleanser, too. I imagine if you don't have super sensitive skin, it would work just as well on your face!

I also love the smell of this soap! I'd purchased a bottle of organic neem oil before, and the smell was so bad and so strong that I never used it. But this bar smells so warm and cozy, like a fall day (but in a subtle way!). I love that I get the effectiveness of neem oil without the horrible smell! If you struggle with clogged pores on your back, chest, or arms, I'd definitely encourage you to try this soap before reaching for harsher, more expensive products.
