I first tried oil cleansing for my face years ago when I was getting into clean beauty. The idea seemed crazy to me, and there was an initial adjustment period, but after I realized that the double cleansing method worked wonders for my skin, I never looked back. What is Cleansing Oil?
It may sounds counter-intuitive that an oil can actually clean your skin, especially if you grew up in the early 2000's with oily skin (hi, it's me!). But cleansing oils do just that, cleansing the skin and balancing the skin's natural oils without stripping away the protective skin barrier. The concept is that like dissolves like - meaning that oil is more effective at dissolving oil and impurities, while warm water opens up the pores and allows it all to be washed away, all while leaving the skin's barrier nourished, intact and pH balanced. A pure oil or oil blend can be used, with benefits tied to each type of oil for different skin types. DIY cleansing oils (or pure oils) commonly used include olive oil, castor oil, coconut oil, jojoba oil, avocado oil, and argan oil. There are also many cleansing oils available from skincare brands made specifically for this purpose. Cleansing oil is now a permanent part of my nontoxic (pregnancy safe!) skincare routine.
Why You Need a Clean Cleansing Oil
While in theory a cleansing oil should be pretty straight forward, they aren't always pure or healthy for the skin. Some budget cleansing oils will contain low quality oils like mineral oil and food grade oils, as well as synthetic fragrance and dyes, which can cause skin irritation and possibly long term health consequences. For the best results and healthy, nourished skin, you want a clean formula made with organic (cold pressed if possible) oils and no harmful fillers, emulsifiers, or preservatives such as isopropyl myristate/isopropyl palmitate, denatured alcohol, PEGs. I personally don't want to guess with blending my own cleansing oil and finding out what works for my skin, so I turn to clean beauty brands I trust to do the formulating for me.

Made with organic plant oils, enzymes, and no synthetic frangrances, the ingredients list is short and pretty straight-forward. Safe for all skin types, even sensitive skin, and certified cruelty-free.
Experience: 10/10
Using this cleansing oil is a complete joy. The tropical smell (which I don't typically love) isn't too strong or too light - it has the perfect notes of a vacation in a bottle in the best way. It glides on ever-so-smoothly without a trace of stickiness, and rinses off easily. I also love the sleek amber glass bottle and pump action.
Performance: 10/10
As promised, this cleanser effectively removes every trace of makeup - including tinted SPF and mascara - without stinging eyes or drying skin. I feel like the enzymes truly give it a little boost and help my skin get cleaner in a gentle way.
Value: 9/10
At $45 a bottle, it's a little pricey, but a little goes a long way. I find I only have to use one pump (versus other brands that I need to use more of), so one bottle lasts a few months. And for a product I love this much, I don't mind. They also have a refill option now!

Overall Impressions
Other oils need not apply, this is THE ONE for oil cleansing. I know that no matter what my face has been through, Botanical B will take it all off effortlessly at the end of the day. One pump of oil glides on easily and offers a little tropical escape as I massage it into my skin, and at the end of my double cleansing routine, my skin feels fresh and clean but also nourished and moisturized. If washing your face could ever feel indulgent, this certainly does. Your beauty routine absolutely needs this oil.
