Why You Need a Clean Cleanser

Most of use use a cleanser to wash our faces of the makeup, dirt, sweat, or general grime from the day. We expect our face to be pure and clean afterward. Unfortunately, many face washes are made with chemicals that may be harmful to our health. When used often, small amounts of these chemicals can build up in our systems and cause endocrine disruption, reproductive harm, or even cancer. Other ingredients can be irritating to the skin or trigger allergic reactions. Some of the biggest culprits in facial cleansers include Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS)1, a foaming agent that can irritate skin and strip the skin barrier of it's natural oils; Parabens2, preservatives that are known endocrine disruptors and are linked to breast cancer; Mineral Oil3, a byproduct of petroleum that could contain carcinogens, and Synthetic Fragrance4, which has been linked to headaches, asthma, skin irritation and respiratory problems.

Assuming you use a facial cleanser every day, and the proximity to your eyes, nose and mouth, it's a good idea to switch to a safer, cleaner product for your daily cleansing routine. Luckily, there are lots of companies out there making great cleansers and other beauty products made with safer, more natural, and more effective ingredients!

Osea Ocean Cleansing Mudd: My Honest Review

    Ingredients: 9/10

Osea has been a leading brand for clean beauty products for a long time. They formulate products without harmful ingredients like SLS/SLES, parabens, PEGs, silicones, and synthetic fragrance, and include scientifically tested, natural active ingredients. This cleanser contains active ingredients oceanic clay powder and brown seaweed to naturally unclog pores and nourish the skin.

    Experience: 7/10

The first thing you'll notice about this face wash is the tingle! Upon cleansing with the peppermint oil-laced wash, your face feels tingly and so fresh! My skin also felt nourished afterward, not dried out and tight like some washes for acne-prone skin can make you feel. Beyond the amazing feel of my face, I love the high end feeling of the sleek glass bottle and the weight of this cleanser. However, I'd be warned that the brown product will stain white washcloths, and that the tingle may be too much for some people. You should definitely keep it away from your eyes! (I use an oil cleanser to wash away makeup first.)

    Performance: 8/10

This cleanser is specifically formulated for oily or blemish prone skin. It certainly did a great job of removing the grime from the day and making my skin feel fresh and clean. I felt that it did a decent job keeping my pores clear while also nourishing my skin. Did it make my breakouts completely disappear? No. But it balanced my oily skin nicely and made my pores less clogged.

    Value: 7/10

At $48, this one is a little on the expensive end, though the bottle is a little larger than most and lasts a fairly long time.

    Overall: 7.8/10

    What other people say

Incredible product. We all use this face cleanser in my house. It controls my teenagers blemishes and leaves his skin glowing. My husband and I both use it too. The peppermint scent and effects are amazing. Another amazing OSEA product!

    Overall Impressions

I absolutely love the freshness of this cleanser! The tingly feeling is invigorating, and the way it not only cleanses but also nourishes is a delight. I love the heavy weight glass packaging and the pleasant smell. It has rave reviews online for its ability to clear up people's skin. I didn't find it exceptional at clearing hormonal breakouts, but I'm convinced that no topical product will do that. Overall I'm a fan!

A couple of warnings: while the brown color is interesting, it does stain my washcloths, so I've had to train myself to wash it off of my face prior to exfoliating. The peppermint oil is also intense, so keep the cleanser away from your eyes.
